Abstract(EN)
This study presents a comparative content analysis of editorials on women's issues published in two major Hindi dailies—Dainik Bhaskar and Patrika—from Bhopal during the first 17 days (August 15-31, 2022) of India's Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. A total of 26 editorial entries (12 from Dainik Bhaskar and 14 from Patrika) were analyzed during this period. In Dainik Bhaskar, the editorial-focused page 'Abhivyaakti' is published 5 days a week. Similarly, in Patrika, the editorial-focused page 'Patrikaan' is published 6 days a week. Due to Independence Day holiday, the August 16th issue was not published in both newspapers. During the period under review, one women-centric main editorial was found in Dainik Bhaskar and two in Patrika. Partial or referenced mentions were recorded as 1 in Dainik Bhaskar and 1 in Patrika respectively. Frame analysis reveals that in both papers, the women's discourse was primarily centered around rights-representation, safety-justice, and economic participation. However, a difference was observed in the continuity of coverage and depth of the subject. Patrika shows more detailed coverage (e.g., NCRB data, representation, and employment), while Dainik Bhaskar's coverage on women's issues during this fortnight was limited. This study provides a strong framework for future comprehensive multi-source research by incorporating indicators related to 'good governance, gender safety, and economic participation (labor force participation rate - LFPR)'.
