Abstract(EN)
Sculpture holds an extremely important place in Indian art. It is not merely an artistic expression, but a vibrant reflection of Indian culture, religion, philosophy, and social values. From the Indus Valley Civilization to the modern era, sculpture has maintained its powerful tradition in diverse forms. Vedic sacrificial traditions, Buddhist stupas, Jain Tirthankara images, the spiritual heights of Gupta art, the grandeur of South Indian temple architecture, and the creativity of the modern age – in all of these, the unique beauty of sculpture is evident. This research paper attempts to elucidate the historical development, aesthetics, cultural significance, religious contribution, social impact, and global recognition of Indian sculpture. It also examines the challenges and opportunities facing sculpture in the contemporary age.
