Abstract(EN)
This research aims to study the social adjustment ability of higher secondary level students in urban and rural areas of Mau district and its impact on their academic achievement. Adolescence is a period where students are influenced by social relationships, group expectations, and cultural practices. During this stage, social adjustment ability deeply affects their mental state, self-confidence, co-existence, and academic performance. This study is descriptive and correlational in nature, with 400 students (200 urban and 200 rural) selected using stratified random sampling. Students' social adjustment ability was measured using the Adjustment Inventory for School Students (AISS) developed by Dr. S.P. Kulshrestha, while academic achievement was measured based on the marks obtained in the annual examination. Data analysis used statistical techniques such as t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and ANOVA. The results showed that urban students had higher social adjustment ability than rural students. Additionally, a moderate positive correlation was found between social adjustment and academic achievement. The combined effect of gender and area was not confirmed, but a clear impact of social adjustment on academic achievement was observed. This study confirms that students' social adjustment ability helps in their academic development. Therefore, it is necessary for teachers, parents, and policymakers to pay special attention to the development of students' social skills.
