Neera Arya was one of the brave women who worked in Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army (INA). She was part of the Rani Jhansi Regiment, the women’s wing of the army.
Why She Refused Her Husband
Neera Arya’s husband, Shreekant Jayranjan Das, worked as a CID officer for the British government.
His job was to catch Netaji Bose and stop the freedom movement.
Neera Arya was completely loyal to Netaji and the fight for India’s freedom.
So when her husband tried to force her to give information about Netaji, she refused to give any information as she knew her husband was working for britishers.
She chose her country over her marriage.
Her Work for Netaji and torture she beared
Neera Arya was a spy in the Indian National Army and helped Netaji by:
- Carrying secret messages
- Collecting information about British movements
- Helping the Rani Jhansi Regiment
She always believed in Netaji’s vision of a free India, but as we know she didn’t support the British and refused to help her husband, she was arrested by British soldiers and got beaten badly many times and her torture days started from there ,she was given no food and no rest for days, It is also reported that she was subjected to horrific injuries, including torture to her breasts but she still refused to reveal secrets about netaji.

Government Did Not Recognise Her Sacrifice
Even after independence, Neera Arya did not get the respect or support she deserved.
She lived a very difficult life after the freedom struggle. She spent her final years selling small items on the streets, with very little help from society or the government.
“She chose her motherland over everything ,a brave freedom fighter who was forgotten.”
